Bio
James Audet is a professional classical guitarist from the Blue Mountains, Australia. He received his Bachelor of Music with Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2014, and the following year he was accepted into the Master of Music course at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, where he studied for 3 years under Professor Marco Tamayo. Having completed his Masters degree in 2019, James returned to the Sydney Conservatorium to undertake his Doctor of Musical Arts degree with the internationally acclaimed professor Vladimir Gorbach, researching the music of Giulio Regondi. James graduated his Doctorate in 2024, and has since been engaged as a casual lecturer and tutor at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
In 2021 James was awarded the Sydney Conservatorium Albert Scholarship to assist his research, and in the same year, he was additionally awarded the University of Sydney Postgraduate Award for academic excellence. James has received numerous prizes throughout his performance career, including the 2nd prize at the 2022 New Zealand International Guitar Competition and the 3rd prize in the Vilnius international guitar competition.
James has an active performance career in Sydney and abroad, performing frequently as a soloist, and as a member of various chamber ensembles. His recent concerts of note include his 3-part concert series aboard the Cunard ‘Queen Anne’ cruise ship, performing in the prestigous 800-seat ‘Royal Court Theatre’, and his solo recital at the Melbourne Conservatorium as part of their annual ‘Guitar Perspectives’ concert series.
